Building Connections and Community: The AcroSports Mission Continues
It is an honor and a pleasure to introduce myself to the broader AcroSports community as the organization’s new Executive Director. AcroSports has been a fulfilling part of my life for well over a decade, and I’m thrilled to be a part of the next chapter. From the time I walked through the doors to take my first gymnastics conditioning class to serving on the AcroSports board and now joining the organization as the Executive Director, the organization’s mission has always held special meaning for me. When I first came in all those years ago, I expected a fun and interesting alternative to a traditional gym. What I got over the years as an adult student was that and so much more. AcroSports has been a community, an escape, a learning experience, and an opportunity to improve myself.
In serving on the board since 2022, I was able to see the full breadth of the programs and experiences AcroSports offers to a broad range of students as well as the greater SF community. I learned the stories of a generation of students that have gone on to become professional coaches, performers, and artists because of the inspiration that AcroSports provided. I have heard many people recount how AcroSports provided a community where they felt accepted being themselves and empowered to explore their own improvement and artistic interests. I also gained an appreciation for how hard the coaches, program managers and leadership team all work to create the environment and opportunities that I and other students appreciate so much.
We live in times that are incredibly innovative yet social media, online culture and post pandemic recovery have left so many feeling disconnected from each other and themselves. AcroSports’ mission and focus on movement, connection and community is part of the antidote to those trends that all too often leave people feeling less connected to each other. It is for that reason that I am excited and energized to help AcroSports’ programs grow and provide the same inclusive and connected experiences to an ever growing community in SF.
I look forward to meeting you in the hallways of the gym on Frederick street as well as out in the community at our upcoming events and performances. I can’t wait to hear your stories about how AcroSports has had an impact on you, and I look forward to working with our talented coaches and leadership team that continues to cultivate an environment where new friendships, athletes, performers and artists thrive.
