Meet Coach Tinai Mills: May AcroStaffer of the Month
From former student to current coaching superstar… May’s AcroStaffer o’ the Month: Miss Tinai Mills.
Some people carry a quiet gravity in the gym: subtly forceful, unmistakable, and impactful. Tinai is one of them. She brings an attentiveness to her coaching that goes beyond learning cartwheels and is rooted in a deep generosity of spirit. She has a unique willingness to see young athletes as whole people learning trust, courage, and capability.
A Journey from Student to Coaching Superstar
Tinai’s coaching is shaped by experience. As a former AcroSports gymnast, she understands firsthand what it means to grow here. That perspective shows up in how she teaches with empathy and an instinct for meeting youth athletes and party guests exactly where they are.
The Acro community marked her in the way formative spaces do, offering her a landscape to grow strong, brave, and shape of her own possibility; that imprint has never left her. She remembers, down to the bones, what it means to be supported here.
Creating a Safe Space for Growth and Joy
In Junior and Youth classes, Tinai has the alchemic goods to create an environment where kids feel safe to try, wobble, and improve. She meets uncertainty with patience and builds not just skills, but confidence and a quiet delight in their own emerging growth.
And then there are parties, where Tinai’s energy somehow expands rather than drains. She brings the same kindness, careful attention, and ability to orchestrate joy. Parents notice. Kids remember. We feel it in the ease with which the day moves when she is on the floor.
Professionalism and Quiet Strength in San Francisco
What stands out most is her consistency. Tinai shows up with professionalism, care, and quiet strength, even when it’s not easy. Her managers report that she’s not ONCE been late for a shift. That’s particularly applaudable because she commutes from outside the city to get to the gym.
It is a rare thing to show up with such presence, to offer so much of oneself with such grace, and to do it in a way that makes everyone else feel more capable simply by being near it.
Congratulations, Tinai!
This month, we recognize not just her coaching, but the quiet strength behind it. Tinai’s work is a reminder that confidence is built through consistent, wholehearted presence.
Congratulations, Tinai. We are grateful for your care, your coaching, and the history that ties you so meaningfully to this place. Acro is better because of you, both the young athlete you once were and the remarkable coach you’ve become.
